Hey everyone, I'm Zack and i'm new to the community here. Not sure what to say, so i'll start with the basics. I'm a 19 year old transguy in Houston, TX. In August it will be 2 years i've been on Testosterone, and I had chest surgery in November. I just found this community and I thought I should join and make some new friends. Feel free to leave a comment =).

Anti-Marriage/Civil Union/Domestic Partnership Amendment [31 Jan 2005|06:28pm]

There is an effort in the Wisconsin Legislature to Ban not only marriage for gay and lesbian couples but also wipe out domestic partnerships and civil unions. This is the first time that anything discriminitory has been put into the Wisconsin Constitution.

The exact wording of the amendment is:

SECTION 1. Section 13 of article XIII of the constitution is created to read: [Article XIII] Section 13. Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state. A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized in this state.

This means that it would take away domestic partnerships not only for same sex couples but heterosexual couples as well.

There are tons of rights that come with marriage, from tax benefits, to healthcare, to medical decisions on your loved ones' behalf, to visiting rights, to adoption.

We need to fight and we need to do it now. If it passes one more time in the legislature it will go to a general referendum possibly as soon as April.

Facts About Wisconsin's Anti-Gay Family Amendment

* The second sentence banning a legal status “substantially similar” to marriage is meant to keep the legislature from enacting Vermont-style civil unions or California-style domestic partnerships in the future. Civil unions or domestic partnerships are the political compromise that most Wisconsin voters are seeking on this issue, and this portion of the amendment bans them.

* The Wisconsin constitution has never before been changed to exclude a group of people

* The amendment proposal may create costly litigation for local communities like Milwaukee, Madison, or LaCrosse, that have domestic partner registries for their citizens or domestic partner health insurance for their public employees. When other states have passed similar bans, local communities have been dragged in to court to defend their domestic partner programs against costly lawsuits.

We are looking for volunteers to help out with events in the Milwaukee area. There is a canvas on February 15th during the eletion. We're looking for people to volunteer and stand outside the polls with two other people and get the word out about this amendment and what it could do. We're also collecting voter information so that if/when this comes up for a referendum that we can get people out there to vote against this amendment.

Please join us in fighting this attempt to put discrimination into the Wisconsin State Constitution. Besides the poll canvas we have database entry and phone banking, door to door canvases as well. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me at faerieboigrrrl23@aol.com or call my cell phone 414-750-4503.

new to real_bois [27 Jan 2005|01:40am]

[ mood | a lil sleepy ]

Hey guys, I just wanted to say how glad I am that I joined this community. This has to be one of the most awesome communities on LJ.

But, one thing about me is that people try and label me. But I think I'm one of those people that can't really be labeled or defined. I'm just me. Thank god that people are different. Man, what a boring world this would be if people were all the same- same gender, same hair color, liked the same things. Gosh, that would get old fast.

So anyways, I thought I'd say hello. I hope everyone is doing okay.

this might be cross posted... [09 Jul 2004|09:39pm]

[ mood | anxious ]

so i think i am coming down with somesort of anxiety issue that is mostly centered around the fact that i am not able
to move forward with my transition as quickly as i would like.

an example of this is like, when i go out with my girlfriend,or ANY time i am in public for that matter,i start freaking out. feel like everyone is staring at me trying to figure out "what" i am.i feel like people are "discussing" me as i walk by.i sometimes can HEAR the whispers, and whenever i catch someone staring,i usualy make eye contact and stare them down until i make them look away...but i feel as if people are staring at me all the time.i don't know how to deal with it.

if i ever have to use the bathroom when i am out in public,it is a HUGE deal for me.i usually have to hold it until i feel like i might cry,or can't hold it anymore.it usually feels like i have swollowed my fucking heart when i step into the bathroom with fear that i might be "found out".

it is causing my sleep to be restless (i have dreams of getting "caught' in the bathroom) and the other day i had a full on panic attack when we went to the movies.

i have ID'd as trans for about 3 or 4 years now.i am starting the process of getting my name changed.my girlfriend and most people whom are in my life tell me i pass very well, but i can't help this feeling, although my girlfriend says that i could DEFINATLY benefit from some anti anxiety medication and that i should look into mental behaverial issurance (she is a psych major)...

anywhoo,i am sorry to bother ya'll with this, but i figured if anyone understood...it would be someone here...

tommy gunn

has anyone else out there experienced this?

important stuff!! [10 Feb 2004|03:19pm]

Hello all!!

My gal is part of the committee planning the FIRST official Florida Collegiate Pride Coalition (FCPC) conference, which will be in Miami, Fl. April 2-4, 2004. It will be held at the University of Miami campus.

The Conference will be the first event specifically designed to network the Florida queer college community; college students from schools all over the state will be attending to go to workshops ranging from queer art to history to leadership.

The reason I'm writing this is because they desperately need speakers to present lectures on the topics of Transgendered issues and Gender Theory. Anything relative to these areas would be appropriate.

If you are interested in presenting at the conference or know anybody who might be, please IM my gal or email her. (AIM=prkswllflwr, email=ricatcher000@yahoo.com). Food and lodging will be discussed then.

Thanks & Sorry for the x-posting!!

Hey everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself.

I'm Charly/Jacob, a sixteen year old living in New York surburbia. The way I identify, well, while I'm comfortable with calling myself a boi, I'm still figuring my full identity out. I'm slowly assimilating into the boi/trannyguy community (doesn't that sound like it should be on a nature show? "I'm out searching for the queerboi in his natural environment! Let's take a look!"), and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's nice know I'm not alone, not by a long shot.

And since it seems like everyone else is including pictures, I'll add one behind the cut.
